One machine, two events, three weeks
Research, development, training and education underground – under real conditions and at full scale:
This is exactly what the unique and independent research infrastructure of the Zentrum am Berg at Montanuniversität Leoben, located at Erzberg in Eisenerz, makes possible.
As part of two events, EXiron’s latest technology was put to the test at Erzberg in July, in the midst of summer temperatures. During the shotcrete seminar, participants had the opportunity to get to know our fully electric shotcrete machine, the EX-eCOP30, and experience its capabilities first-hand in practical operation.
The EX-eCOP30 is powered exclusively by electricity and operates completely without fossil fuels. The machine draws its energy from ten LFP battery units integrated into the chassis, with a total capacity of 151 kWh. This enables the machine to operate independently of an external power supply for up to
1.5 hours – a level of performance that is unique in this form.
Practical training underground
bfi Steiermark GmbH, BZ Leoben regularly conducts training courses at Erzberg, where participants learn and perform all the work relevant to tunnel construction under realistic conditions.
A key part of this training is the professional application of shotcrete. Upon successfully completing the relevant training, participants receive the nozzle operator certificate, qualifying them to operate a shotcrete machine correctly and apply shotcrete in a controlled and professional manner.
The fast and safe familiarisation with the new EX-eCOP30 was particularly encouraging. Both less experienced and highly experienced shotcrete operators were able to operate the machine safely after only a short introduction and apply the pumped concrete professionally.
For us, this is an important confirmation: The EX-eCOP30 not only impresses with its electric drive technology, but also with its intuitive operation and its consistent focus on the needs of operators.
Electric mobility in tunneling – put to the test
In addition to the practical application, the events also provided an opportunity to take an in-depth look at the use of battery technology in tunnelling. Particular attention was given to questions surrounding safety, operating time and potential risks associated with battery-powered systems.
The direct exchange with industry experts, company representatives and training participants was particularly valuable to us. The many positive responses and the strong interest in the new technology confirmed that electric drive solutions can offer a promising future for even the most demanding underground construction environments.
At the same time, critical questions and concerns regarding the use of battery systems in tunnelling were openly discussed and addressed with technical explanations and practical information.
We would like to sincerely thank the organizers of both events for giving us the opportunity to present the EX-eCOP30 at Erzberg and demonstrate its capabilities directly in practical operation.

Successful presentation of our new prototype EX-eCOP30
Brief report on our customer event “Prototype Presentation Q2 2026” in cooperation with
ARGE IH-Innstufe Imst-Haiming at the Magerbach 100 construction site in Haiming (AT)
On April 23rd, 29th and 30th 2026, we presented our new machine EX-eCOP30 to interested
customers directly under real construction site conditions.
As part of this customer event at ARGE IH-Innstufe in Haiming, the fully electric shotcrete machine
EX-eCOP30 was successfully presented and demonstrated in practical use.
The aim of the event was to familiarize customers and project stakeholders with the advantages of modern, emission-free machine technology in tunnel and infrastructure construction.
The focus was on the live demonstration of the EX-eCOP30 under real construction site conditions.
The demonstration impressively showcased the capabilities of the all-electric device: In addition to its reliable spraying performance, the quiet and emission-free operation was particularly convincing, offering both ecological and workplace advantages. The precise control and high efficiency
of the system were consistently praised by the participants.
Following the demonstration, constructive technical discussions took place with customers and users, focusing in particular on topics such as sustainability, operating costs and future prospects of
electrified construction site solutions.
The customer days in Haiming once again demonstrated the importance of close cooperation between development, service and users.
The event was a complete success overall and underlines the growing interest in innovative, environmentally friendly technologies in the construction industry.
